Publishing workflow
Prepare images for a blog or website
Blog images need to look clear without making pages heavy. A good workflow combines resizing, compression, and the right format choice.
Start with the display size
If the image will appear around 800 to 1200 pixels wide, uploading a 4000 pixel photo is usually wasteful. Resize the image close to the size it will actually be displayed. This often reduces file size before compression even begins.
Choose the format
Use JPG for most photos. Use PNG for screenshots, graphics, or images that need transparency. Use WebP when your publishing system supports it and web performance is the priority. Convert HEIC photos to JPG when the site does not accept HEIC.
Compression checklist
- Preview text and small details after compression.
- Avoid very low quality settings for faces or product images.
- Keep originals before resizing or compressing.
- Name files clearly so they are easy to reuse.
