How to compress audio for email and upload forms
Audio files often become too large because they are uncompressed, recorded for a long time, or exported at a higher quality than the destination needs. Compression is the process of making a smaller copy that is easier to send or upload.
Start with the destination limit
Before changing settings, check the file size limit. Email attachments, school systems, application forms, and messenger apps all have different limits. If the limit is strict, lower the bitrate first. If the recording is long, trimming silence can help too.
Recommended settings
- Speech or lecture: try 96-128 kbps MP3.
- Interview or lesson audio: try 128-160 kbps MP3.
- Music practice track: try 192 kbps or higher.
- Very long recording: trim unnecessary parts before compressing.
Do not overwrite the only copy
Compression can reduce quality. Keep the original recording somewhere safe, then send the compressed copy. This matters for interviews, performances, classroom recordings, and any file you may need to edit later.
Using RAON Tools
Open the audio compressor, select up to 10 supported files, choose an MP3 quality level, and export smaller copies. The tool is designed to run in the browser where supported, so the selected files are not intentionally stored on a conversion server.
